Permanent Jewelry

We are thrilled to offer permanent jewelry!

To us, jewelry is an opportunity to stay connected with our values, dreams, and loved ones.  By giving meaning to the styles we wear on our hands and hearts, we bring our minds back to an intentional place each time we see that sparkly chain or gemstone.

With this in mind, we love the experiential component of permanent jewelry, which is jewelry that is welded onto the wrist or necklace and has no clasp.  The deliberateness of choosing something lasting, and the commitment of having it welded onto our bodies feels extra intentional.  I also like that the choice remains ours, and we can let the release the jewelry when the time is right, with just a snip.  We reserve the right to change and evolve.

    FAQs

    What is permanent jewelry?

Permanent jewelry is composed of chain and charms that form bracelets, anklets, and necklaces custom fit and laser welded onto you without a clasp.

    Does permanent jewelry hurt?

Not at all! We use a laser welder to join the two ends of your chain without a clasp. It is totally painless, and just for extra assurance, we have a little strip of leather available to lay between your skin and the laser.

Do I need an appointment to get permanent jewelry?

Yes.  Our welding services are by appointment only.  You can either book a time slot at a scheduled pop-up event.  Coming soon: we will be offering times to visit our studio in the Magnolia neighborhood of Seattle.  You can also arrange a permanent jewelry event for you and your friends.  Email studio@brittaambauen.com to learn more or fill in the form above.

What metals do you use for the permanent bracelets, anklets, and necklaces?

We use 14k solid yellow and white gold, sterling silver, and 14k gold fill for your permanent jewelry.

I recommend the solid gold options: since they're permanent, we want them to sparkle without needing polishing.  Solid gold is also more durable than other metal options.  Sterling silver and parts of 14k gold fill will tarnish, especially with exposure to pool water or other chemicals.

    What is the cost?

Costs for braclets start around $30 for sterling silver and increase into the $200-$300 range depending on chain selection and charms.

The appointment deposit of $25 is applied to the bracelet purchase.

How long will my permanent jewelry stay on?

Your pieces will stay on for as long as you'd like! If for some reason you would like to remove your jewelry, simply cut the chain and save it if you'd like me to re-weld it in the future.

    What if my chain breaks?

Because your piece has no clasp and is measured to perfectly fit your wrist, ankle or neck, it should not break. However, if it does break, please save your chain and I'm happy to re-weld it for you at no cost.

If the chain is missing, a new chain will need to be purchased.

Can I go through airport security with permanent jewelry?

Absolutely! TSA does not ask you to remove fine jewelry, so you'll be able to take your permanent jewelry with you on all your adventures!

Can I get an MRI with a permanent bracelet, anklet, or necklace?

Your permanent jewelry should be removed before an MRI. Save your chain and I can re-weld it for you!

Who should not get permanent jewelry?

Those with pacemakers should not get permanent jewelry because of the welding process.

Allergies to solid gold, sterling silver, and gold fill are rare, but those with allergies should not get permanent jewelry.

If you are required to not wear jewelry for your job or because you play a sport, permanent jewelry may not be a sustainable fit.

Can I hire you for my next event?

Absolutely! I would love to help you celebrate your special event with a permanent jewelry party!

Birthdays, bachelorettes, weddings, corporate events, you name it! Please reach out to us at studio@brittaambauen.com to get started!
